The Scunthorpe Scorpions have concluded a major new sponsorship deal with the leading car dealership Eddie Wright.
The 20 year deal . . . which involves a five figure sum . . . will see the speedway team’s home on Normanby Road re-named the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The car supermarket will become one of the newly elevated Premier League side’s most important sponsors.
Scorpions promoter Kenny Smith said: “We’re delighted to have won the support of such an important local company, particularly as they are prepared to back us over such a long period.”
“The agreement between us is to run through to 2027, which in sporting support terms has to be about as good as it gets!”
Kenny added: “From our point of view the deal could not have come at a better time. We are moving up into the 17-team Premier League in the forthcoming season.”
“Expenses at this level are higher, we are investing in strengthening the team, and we want to keep ticket prices at an affordable level. Every pound that we can raise through the support of sponsors is important.”
The sponsorship agreement is one of a number of projects that the car dealership is undertaking this year, when the firm is celebrating its 75th birthday.
Chairman Tony Wright said: “We’re very pleased to be joining the Scorpions supporters and we’re looking forward to a long . . . and successful . . . relationship.”
“The team has enjoyed a spectacular couple of seasons in the Conference but things are obviously moving on to a different level in the new season, which begins in March.”
“We know that members of the team are working hard. When the wind is in the right direction we can quite often hear them training!”
“Apart from the financial backing, we’re going to be giving the team any other help that we can. We will be getting complimentary tickets and use of the hospitality suite, so it may be that we can introduce some of our customers to the excitement of speedway.”
