Visitors to a top local car supermarket at the weekend did a double-take when they found the reception desk being manned by Scunthorpe Scorpions captain Richard Hall!
Eddie Wright has just become one of the main sponsors of the newly promoted Premier League speedway team and to promote the start of the new season in a couple of week’s time the club staged a display at the dealership’s Warren Road site.
Speedway machines and the club’s silverware took centre stage in the main showroom on Saturday and Sunday. Riders, starter girls, mascot and club officials attended during the weekend to chat to visitors.
The most improbable sight of the weekend was the club captain taking a breather and joining receptionist Rebecca Hill on the main desk to greet car buyers!
Eddie Wright Managing Director Jane Wright said: “That really was a moment to be savoured.”
Jane added: “ We thought the display would be a fun thing to do just a couple of weeks before the start of the new season. The Scorpions are one of our major sponsorships this year, our 75th year, and we’ll be doing all we can to support the boys.”
“They are really nice people, very friendly and down to earth. It was a pleasure to have the display in the showroom and we are delighted to be associated with the team.”
Scorpions Marketing Manager Julie Harrowven said: “It is the first time that we have done anything like this and it was an extremely useful experience. We came away with a lot of ideas.”
“We are moving up to a whole new level this year in every sense. We are very keen to raise the team’s profile and to make the public aware of just how exciting this season is going to be.”
Meanwhile does a new career beckon for Richard Hall after racing?
“You bet,” laughed Jane. “We’d be delighted to consider him for any vacancy!”
