Scunthorpe based used car supermarket Eddie Wright has been recognised as the UK’s Best Used Car Retailer at the motor industry AM Awards, recognising a business wide commitment to excellence.
Managing Directors Jane and Paul Wright, grandchildren of the businesses set up eighty years ago were stunned to receive the award from host BBC news broadcaster Susanna Reid in front of over 1000 guests from across the motor industry.
The AM awards represent business excellence for motor retailers across the UK. To put it in fullcontext, there are over 6000 franchised dealers representing the full spectrum of manufacturers and countless used car retailers of various sizes. To win against such major competition says much for the highly personal service delivered by the whole team at Eddie Wright.
Commenting on the award Jane noted; "We were delighted to simply have been short-listed just to have been at the awards, when we were announced as the winner, Paul and I were absolutely stunned and couldn’t stop smiling. We are so pleased for everyone in our team who made this possible and especially for our Mum and Dad who have done so much to build the business we lead today".
AM editor Jeremy Bennett reflecting upon the award noted: “Eddie Wright deserves the 2012 AM Used Car Retailer Award because it is a welcoming, well-run dealership focused on delivering a memorable buying experience for all customers and this gives it a competitive advantage in themarket. "Its management team never rests on its laurels and embraces all the latest routes to market, from social media to smartphone apps".
The judging panel, which was chaired by Christopher Macgowan, former chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and visiting professor at Buckingham University’s Business School’s Centre for Automotive Management, selected Eddie Wright from an impressive array of some of the UK’s most prominent retailers. The quality of vehicle preparation, after sales, technology and above all personal service made up the Eddie Wright submission, with the judging panels roving judge impressed by the passion and genuine commitment to family values and service expressed by the whole Eddie Wright team.
Paul Wright reflected after the award; "Eddie Wright is part and parcel of the Scunthorpe landscape. Now it’s just good to know that the efforts of everyone in the business are being recognised on a national basis. We are very proud to and honoured to have received other awards in the past, but this really is the highest award we have ever achieved, I’m absolutely chuffed".
